George Washington Exhibit Comes to the 1889 Courthouse
Beginning October 10th, The Tower Heritage Center will host Mount Vernon's traveling exhibit in celebration of America's 250th.

This fall, the Tower Heritage Center is honored to be hosting the traveling “George Washington and a Nation of Farmers " exhibit in collaboration with the Mount Vernon Ladies Association. For eight weeks, the 1889 Courthouse will open its doors to visitors interested in the agricultural ties of the First President of the United States.
The exhibit will be open Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 pm and during Reading Room Hours.

During his life, George Washington was an innovator in both politics and in his military career, but a lesser-known passion of his was agriculture. Washington was continually searching for ways to improve the agricultural success of his estate, Mount Vernon. And as president, he was equally passionate about the success of the American farmer. This exhibit dives into Washington’s innovative spirit and the people who helped make Mount Vernon successful. To learn more about the exhibit, you can visit Mount Vernon’s website here:

In Washington County, our deep agricultural ties can be seen all around us. Washington County is home to numerous Century Farms, and our agricultural society has been active since 1855. It is no surprise, then, that our county's first settlers looked to President Washington as the ideal figure to name the county after. To honor our own agricultural heritage, we have crafted four additional panels and brought items tied to our farming past out of collections-but not for long.
This exhibit will only last until December, so make sure to visit us while it’s still here!
